Divisions 3/4 and 2/3 Slalom September 1st & 2nd 2007

 

VENUE: Artificial Slalom Course at Cardington Mill 11/2 miles east of Bedford adjacent to the A603 Bedford to Sandy Road O.S. Map 153 Reference TL 076487 approach via Stannard Way and signposted PrioryBusinessPark.

If you are using the Bedford Southern Bypass A421 the Exit is clearly marked Cardington, PrioryBusinessPark and PrioryPark.  Once into the BusinessPark straight across the first roundabout and then the next turning left takes you into the  car park. (There will be slalom signs posted at these junctions).

 

PARKING: All vehicles must be parked in the main Car Park and NOT on the approach road. Please park sensibly and DRIVE CAREFULLY.

 

CAUTION: The car park is protected by a height barrier. This will be locked open during the event but should you arrive early on Friday come to control and it will be unlocked.

 

WARNING: Make sure your car is LOCKED and valuables are out of sight.

 

CAMPING AND CARAVANNING: Use of Site and Liability

All persons camping & caravanning on the site do so at their own risk. Use of the site for camping & caravanning is by permission of the Bedford Borough Council. However, no liability of any sort is accepted either by Bedford Borough Council, the BCU Slalom Committee or the Organisers, before, during or after the event.

 

CARAVANS are to be sited in the picnic area across  the SluiceBridge. If you arrive before midnight come to control for the gate key. IF YOU INTEND TO USE YOUR CAR DURING THE WEEKEND PLEASE LEAVE IT IN THE CAR PARK AS VEHICLE MOVEMENT IS RESTRICTED.

TENTS must be pitched in the area between the LockBridge and  the slalom course as indicated on the Site Map. Water will be available from the tap in the corner of the Car Park. Toilets will be situated at the end of the camping area and a waste disposal point will be available in the Car Park.

 

IN THE INTERESTS OF EVERYONE’S SAFETY, PLEASE LEAVE PLENTY OF SPACE BETWEEN TENTS TO MINIMISE FIRE RISK.

 

PLEASE NOTE NO TENTS IN THE CARAVAN AREA  –  YOU WILL BE ASKED TO MOVE. NO VEHICLES ARE ALLOWED OVER THE LOCK BRIDGE WITHOUT EXPRESS PERMISSION.

 

CAMPSITE FEES: Are £3.50 per person per weekend with an additional levy of £1.00 for Caravans. Please note Caravanettes and Trailer Tents are counted as Caravans. PLEASE NOTE do not dodge payment as we have to pay the Local Council and the Wardens do count the number of tents and caravans.

WARNING:   IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE WOKEN AT 06.30 ON SUNDAY COLLECT YOUR CAMPSITE TICKET FROM CONTROL.

SLEEPING IN CARS IS EXPRESSLY FORBIDDEN BY BEDFORD BOROUGH COUNCIL and the Wardens will take action.

 

NO OPEN FIRES: Raised BarBQs may be used with care.

Please keep your camping area tidy and standards high as this is a country park.

 

REFRESHMENTS:A variety of light refreshments will be available on the site during the weekend plus BREAKFASTS on SUNDAY morning.

 

RULES AND REGULATIONS:     This event is run in accordance with current B.C.U. Slalom Rules. All competitors are particularly reminded of the regulations relating to safety and rescue, and to equipment and their specifications. Please make  sure you know them. CHECKS WILL BE MADE!!!

 

All visitors to the event are expected to abide by the Canoeists Code of Conduct, in particular with regard to changing. During the event all spectators are required to remain outside  the railings bordering the course to allow free access for Officials and Rescue Personnel.

 

BIBS:Competitors are reminded that they must have applied for their official bib. Bib Officers will be receiving this start sheet and will notify the Organiser of any entrant who has not applied. Division 4 and Officials may be supplied with bibs. Bibs must be worn at all times on the water during practice and individual events.  Division 4 competitors must prove BCU membership, take out a day ticket or join on the day.

 

PRACTICE:  All practice must be in COMPLETE RUNS. Competitors are asked to make their own arrangements for safety/rescue during free practice. If this request is not complied with then free practice will be curtailed.  The course will be available from completion on Friday until Dusk, and again on Saturday from 08.30 to the start of official practice.  On Sunday, the course may be available until 15 mins before the event begins. You may warm up on the main river but you MUST NOT SHOOT the sluice into the start pool. Please be courteous to other river users, especially fishermen.

To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the first Slalom event at Cardington there will be a “Grand Prix” event (limited number of gates – no penalties) on Saturday after the Ranking event.

 

 

 

IMPORTANT NOTICE

SUPERVISION OF JUVENILES AT SLALOM EVENTS

A child must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or a nominated adult who shall assume responsibility for the child throughout the time the child is at the event. Neither the BCU nor the Event Organiser will assume responsibility or be liable for a child who is unaccompanied or unsupervised. Note that while the definition of a child is a person under the age of 18, the statement applies particularly to children under the age of 16.       Issued on the authority of the BCU Slalom Committee.

 

PLEASE NOTE:

 

If we have insufficient Judges then we will implement rule 54.4 page 93 in the 2007 Slalom Yearbook:-

 

“At any event, if there is a shortage of judges, the organiser may require paddlers (or their nominated substitutes) to judge or undertake other official duties, in consultation with the Jury.

No canoeing on or near the sluice adjacent to the lock. You could jeopardise the site and be liable to prosecution by the Environmental Agency. There are dangerous underwater obstacles and you WILL be disqualified from the event.
